Episode 14: When I Grow Up

In this week’s blog, we will be diving into the Nomad Minute episode 14 entitled “When I Grow Up.”

What do you want to be when you grow up?

As adults we tend to dream about the things we can get. But as children our hearts dreamt about who we could become. One dream is fleeting and temporary while the other is rooted in legacy. So which one seems more childish?

I heard a quote recently that simply said “Don’t grow up… it’s a trap!” And I thought, “Wow, that’s the truest thing I’ve heard in a long time!”

You see, there is something magical about the mind of a child… the limitless lens they see the world through and the audacious dreams they dare to believe they can materialize in this life.

The question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” is a stupid question, especially when posed to a kid!

This question teaches us to limit the way we imagine our future to what we do…not to who we can become. This question also teaches us to think about our lives from end to end with ourselves in mind.

A better question to ask is, “What impact do you want to leave on this world?” That teaches you to think about a life bigger than yourself.

This life is a shared experience and your life will never be fully alive until you decide to give it away. When your dreams no longer begin and end with you… that’s when you become dangerous.
